No doubt about it, style is one of the SPORTCITY’s strong points. The sturdy Sportcity’s essential, refined lines create a look that appeals to riders and onlookers alike. Refinements like the two tone seat, chrome plated crash protectors, and painted instrument surround add a touch of class. And an impressive level of quality transpires instantly from even a quick glance at the beautifully finished body and elegant twinned headlights.

The broad seat is superb even when riding in company, thanks to an anatomic design that ensures maximum comfort for both rider and passenger. The special fabric upholstery provides improved grip and prevents you sliding forward under braking. The result is a safer and more relaxed ride. The new SPORTCITY boasts a large, completely flat platform for enhanced rider comfort and increased load carrying capacity. The platform is cleverly tapered so that the rider can extend his or her legs effortlessly, and get both feet firmly on the ground. The generous leg shield affords excellent weather protection. Two vents direct warm air from the radiator on to the rider’s legs for added warmth in winter months, especially if used in conjunction with the optional Aprilia leg cover.

The practical luggage rack incorporates passenger grab handles and can be fitted easily with a top box for increased load capacity. Load capacity plays a major role in choosing a scooter of this type. Thanks to the meticulous care taken during the design stage, and the clever use of available space, the Sportcity might look compact, but it is, in fact, amazingly spacious. Its limited dimensions and large wheels have not compromised the availability of space. The rider benefits from an under-seat storage compartment big enough to hold a jet helmet with visor plus smaller personal effects. And this impressive capacity has been achieved without affecting riding ergonomics and ease of control. Seat height is still only 815 mm. The chassis of the new Sportcity embodies Aprilia’s vast experience in manufacturing high capacity, high performance scooters. Every care has been taken in the design of the Sportcity to ensure that the frame remains sufficiently rigid despite elimination of the awkward old central tunnel. The frame is made from high strength steel tube, and is designed for excellent torsional rigidity and strength. This highly efficient frame gives the Sportcity a feeling of superior control and a sporting character worthy of the best Aprilias.

The hydraulic telescopic fork features 35 mm stanchions and provides a wheel travel of 100 mm for precision control and excellent damping. With suspension like this, cobblestones, broken surfaces and manhole covers are no longer cause for concern.

The engine-transmission assembly acts as swingarm and is damped by two shock absorbers. Adjustable spring preload lets you set up the suspension for maximum efficiency under all load and road conditions. Long rear wheel travel (80 mm) lets you glide over even the roughest surfaces.

The Sportcity is equipped with 15 inch wheels and large, high profile, tubeless tyres (120/70 at the front and 130/80 at the rear). This combination gives a rolling diameter equivalent to that of 16 inch tyres, but with far better damping on rough roads, for significant benefits in riding comfort. Combined with the excellent frame, the suspension and wheel system gives the Sportcity excellent stability and a truly intuitive ride that anybody can enjoy.

Another one of the Sportcity’s many strong points is its braking system. This is especially true of the top of the range 250 i.e., which adopts a triple disc system (instead of the double discs systems fitted to the 125 and 200) for amazingly short stopping distances and safer than ever riding. Even inexperienced riders can stop quickly while maintaining full control. From 90 kph the Sportcity 250 i.e. takes only 2.7 seconds to come to a complete stop. The two front discs are 260 mm in diameter and are braked by floating calipers with twin parallel pistons. The rear wheel is braked by a 220 mm disc with a single piston caliper.

Another fundamental benefit of the Sportcity 250 i.e. is its advanced engine technology. The new electronically fuel injected engine represents the state of the art for scooter engines. Powerful, flexible, clean running and with miserly fuel consumption, this 250 cc unit is the perfect match for the Sportcity concept. Delivering an impressive 22.5 HP at 8,000 rpm and 21 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm, the 250 cc engine offers pace-setting performance and emphasises the Sportcity’s ability to deliver a dynamic, fun ride not only around town but on fast main roads too. Despite its generous power, however, the engine is also environmentally friendly and the Sportcity 250 i.e. is homologated to Euro 3 standard.

The 125 and 200 cc engines satisfy all normal requirements for personal mobility in and around town. Fast and nippy, the Sportcity 200 sets the standard for performance in this class of scooter. The 125 cc version shares the same high technology and is design.

The single cylinder 200 cc power plant delivers an amazing 21 HP, establishing the Sportcity 200 at the top of its category. Sparkling performance in terms of acceleration and top speed makes the Sportcity 200 ideal for urban commuting and for travel on fast main roads.

With a maximum power of 15 HP, the Sportcity 125 nips effortlessly through city traffic and cruises at speeds that are more than adequate for commuting needs. The 125 and 200 cc engines are both liquid cooled with 4 valve cylinder heads.

A catalytic exhaust ensures reduced emissions and brings the Sportcity 125-200 within the strict emission limits imposed by EURO 3. Fuel consumption is especially low so that the Sportcity’s 9 litre fuel tank gives excellent autonomy.
